Let me be the first to express to you that pumping has to suck, but we really should be pumped to pump! Ok now that we have gotten all those necessary pumping puns out of the way, let’s dive into this topic a little further…
Anyone who personally knows me can attest to my passion for an empowered and successful pumping experience. A staggering 1 in 4 women in the US will return to work within 2 weeks of giving birth. Up to 80% of US women will return to work within the first 12 months after giving birth. Of this number, 50% are estimated to return to work by 12 weeks and a staggering 30% by week 8. This means a breast pump is not only a necessary part of the breastfeeding journey, but arguably the most vital piece to achieving a mother’s breastfeeding goals. Unfortunately, pumping is one of the most misunderstood and poorly supported areas of breastfeeding. If we want to do better for our breastfeeding mothers we MUST do better in this key area of lactation.
Moving Mama Lactation was founded with the mobile mother at heart, aiming to provide them with the tools and support they need to have a successful breastfeeding journey. Pumping provides every mother the flexibility to move through motherhood and overcome any unique challenge or situation. As a two time exclusive pumper, once by need and once by choice, I am extremely passionate about the role a pump might or will play in your breastfeeding journey and want you to be equipped with all the knowledge and tools you need for success. Whether you chose the pump life, or the pump life chose you, I cannot wait to help you be Pumped to Pump too!
Hi everyone, I am Amy, a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), wife, mother and working mom. I am one of the many mothers, who like you, have navigated or are currently navigating the rewarding but often confusing world of breastfeeding, full-time employment and full-time motherhood. My hope is Moving Mama Lactation can be a resource and unique for you as you move through your own successful breastfeeding journey.
Like many new moms, I had a plan to breastfeed my children, return to work and transition seamlessly into this next phase of life. Let’s just say I was quickly humbled after learning something so natural doesn’t come without its learning curves and individual struggles. I learned the value of an educated lactation support team, that not all breast pumps are created equal, and that all moms, regardless of their feeding choices, could use much more support than society currently provides.
From prenatal and postpartum lactation education to tailormade pumping practices, navigating returning to work and beyond, Moving Mama Lactation grew from a passion and into a purpose. I truly believe that support is the key to achieving your personal breastfeeding goals and I cannot wait to help you achieve yours!
I don’t know where to start besides saying WOW! Amy helped guide me both during my pregnancy (knowing what to expect and how I could prepare) and through post-partum with both pumping schedules and breastfeeding techniques/adjustments. She explained things so simply and was truly a dream come true for helping me achieve my feeding goals and maintaining my sanity. Highly HIGHLY recommend for all lactation needs!
